Because something has to change.

Because something has to change.

All we did was google: “fitness magazine covers”.   We actually pay people to tell us this sh!t. Even if we don’t buy these kinds of magazines, these messages still scream at us in the market line-up, on highway billboards, and worst of all, where we work out. Marketers need us to feel too old, too fat, and too skinny.  They need us to believe we don’t know how to eat, that we’re missing a BIG SECRET, and that we can’t make any choices for ourselves. If we dislike ourselves just enough, we’ll buy what they’re selling. We drank the juice, too. For years, WE were buying the same old crap for ourselves. Why? Because we’re born and raised in the fitness industry, where body-shaming was born.  Want proof? Just check out these unfathomable gym ads.  We all fall prey to the cycle of guilt, and we knew we had to do something to change it. It’s always been about taking the power back. This is why Rebellion was born: so we could band together to end the cycle. Listen, there is nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight. Maintaining a healthy percentage of body fat is key to overall health; everyone knows that.  And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to change your appearance. We all have to do what feels right for us. What needs to change is who decides how we feel about ourselves, and who decides what we do about it. And because we get slammed with this BS on the regular, we have to check in ALL THE TIME to make sure we’ve empowered ourselves...
How to stop.

How to stop.

When being strong means doing nothing at all. Twice each year we launch an 8 week challenge in our studios.  With the Rebellion, there’s no goal outfit, or tracking of pounds and inches, and certainly no going hungry.  Instead, we follow an 8 step coaching process designed to help us think more positively, set goals more effectively, and create healthy habits that can sustain us far beyond the 8 weeks. Most of us don’t realize how conditioned we’ve been to have a love-hate relationship with food and fitness, two things which should bring us so much joy! Here’s the hardest part. We might think that the most demanding part of a challenge like this is being diligent about meal prep, learning how to do some pretty tough fitness moves, or staying the course over a girl’s weekend or trip south. It’s not. There’s one thing that so many of our new Rebels struggle with, but our returning challengers even more.  Once we’ve created this gutsy, unstoppable Rebel lifestyle, what happens when we need to STOP? Sometimes real life happens, right?  Sometimes it’s something simple that slows us down, like a cold or an achy knee from an old injury. And sometimes it’s not simple one bit.  Real life includes losses, divorces, ups and downs with health, or attending to someone else’s needs. These things can throw us right off our game, so it’s vital that we remember this: We’re creating a healthy life.  Our bodies and our wellbeing need to be with us for the long-haul.  Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is stop to heal, rest, and...

Why we love to crush Mondays.

Why we love to crush Mondays.

Mondays with mad potential! Here’s why we think Mondays have magic when it comes to creating the lifestyle we want. A week of goal-crushing. If we want the most from our workouts, they have to be habit instead of chance.  Instead of squeezing it in when there’s time (because let’s be serious…there’s always something else we could think of doing), scheduling a start-of-the-week workout makes us way more likely to make fitness - and goal-crushing in general - a priority all week long. The slippery slope factor. Have an intense weekend of BBQs and cocktails?  Cheers to that - weekends are for good times! Postponing a return to workouts makes us more likely to talk ourselves out of fitness all week long…”I’ll get back there next week when I’ve eaten a little better/feel less bloated/have more energy…” Sound familiar?  We love nipping it in the bud and locking that Monday workout in, guilt-free and ready to rock. Bring on the week! Feel-good endorphins from crushing a Monday workout give us a more positive outlook on the day and week ahead. Who doesn’t want a healthy dose of unstoppable hell-ya on a Monday? #WABAM Kitchen crushing. Starting the week strong also makes us WAY more likely to start the week food-prepped and eating well. The ultimate re-do! No matter what last week was like, Monday is the best time to say f*ck it and start from scratch.        ...
Why we go dry!

Why we go dry!

Random acts of no booze and why we love it. Across the board, Revvers are a crew of people who love to crush.  As business partners, Ange and I like to challenge each other to find ways to be at our most energized, creative and resilient. We know that - generally speaking - when the cocktails flow, we’re not at the top of our game.  This is why we launch our own dry-zones from time to time, and why we’re  sharing this concept with you during Rebellion. Here are our top reasons for laying off the booze. Health.  Here’s a shocker - drinking is a leading cancer risk. We put so much work into eating and living well that cutting back and occasionally eliminating the booze is a no-brainer. Hangovers.  Life without dehydration, headaches, 6 am cravings for strong coffee and a bacon double cheeseburgers? We don’t know anyone who wishes they had more hangovers in their life. Hangxiety.  Putting our feet up with a cocktail at the end of the day may feel like the perfect way to quell anxiety, but the opposite is true.  Inhibitions are lower so you may wake up with texters’ remorse but there’s also a lot of science to back up the hangover jitters.  While the body works to metabolize your drinks, blood sugar drops, which can lead to feelings of nervousness.  Sounds like a vicious circle, huh? Clear skin. Alcohol dehydrates us, leaving our skin looking gaunt and dry.  It also causes inflammation in the body overall, which can show up on our skin as red blotchiness. What? Oh right, memory.  Booze messes with memory to the max....
The Weekend-Rebel Survival Guide!

The Weekend-Rebel Survival Guide!

Canadian’s love summer weekends. After all, our summer is like 5 seconds long.  Living healthy doesn’t mean we won’t revel in good times.  What does set us apart is that we’ll be among the few people who don’t feel like total sh!t Sunday night - who’s with us? THE HURDLES Knowing what our challenges will be before the weekend rolls up means we’re better prepared to crush. We asked Revvers for their top reasons for falling off the goal train: Peer Pressure: Kids aren’t the only ones who crumble…this was actually the top answer by a landslide.  “I feel lame having a soda water or a single cocktail when everyone else is indulging around the campfire. I don’t want to feel like the odd man out.”  Feel familiar? Temptation: If you’re cottage-bound, odds are friends and family will be firing up the barbecue and with cocktails flowing dock-side.  Hard to resist?  “My brother in law makes the world’s best ribs every May 24, I can’t imagine saying no.” Manners:  No one wants to feel like the annoying health fiend at the party, munching on carrot sticks and seed mix.  “It feels rude bringing my own meals when I’m a guest at someone’s cottage for the weekend.” THE STRATEGY   Get Real: We’re not here to tell you that you can let it rip all weekend long then press the Reset button Tuesday morning.  While it’s true that we can always choose a fresh start when we need one, part of being hardcore is making tough choices and going the extra mile.  We already know that success comes with hard work and dedication, there’s no getting...
