Rise + CRUSH

Rise + CRUSH

THIS is how Rebels face a new day. In my mid 30s, I committed to Julia Cameron’s simple concept of Morning Pages: hand-writing 3 pages of random thoughts each morning.  It doesn’t matter what goes on those pages, what’s important for me is just getting some of the noise out of my mind so I can tackle the day with some focus.  Like most creatives, my brain feels like an explosion around the clock.  This is one of the things that makes my business partnership with Ange so hilarious - unlike most people with the good sense to team up with their opposite, we share this affliction that feels a lot like living with Pop Rocks inside your skull. For me, journalling is non-negotiable when it comes to keeping my sanity. And for the record, I wouldn’t trade our dual Pop Rock brains for anything. Morning Pages are tough, because mornings are bananas. For most people, the start of the day is filled with other people’s needs and a race with the clock, so finding time to sit for 15 minutes of journalling can seem self-indulgent and full-on impossible.  Lately, I’ve been using Tim Ferris’ book Tools of Titans to help me sit long enough to focus on my journalling.  I read a couple pages for inspo, then grab my pen. Tools of Titans is filled with success tips from zillions of brilliant super-champs Ferris has interviewed, along with his own reflections and gems. This morning my random flip opened the book to Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock’s feature, where he mentions a t-shirt given to him at an Avatar event....
The REBEL Force

The REBEL Force

We decide. If we’re taking it back for life, then the REBEL Force becomes the most important superpower yet. It’s about always thinking for ourselves, and making decisions that are aligned with our values and our vision…not someone else’s. Build “REBEL Force” Muscle. It’s human nature to want to be handed the answers sometimes…we have a lot on our plates!  This is why we love having trainers, coaches, and mentors - we love benefitting from an expert.  But what happens when we stop questioning direction? When we no longer check in to make sure we’re operating in line with what we want?  Here are our favourite ways to check in and make sure we’re operating right from the gut. Rebel tricks: thinking for ourselves. QUESTION IT.  We make sure we’re to blindly believing advice by always asking the question “why?” GO WITH THE GUT. It rarely leads us astray. CURE THE DISEASE TO PLEASE: Taking action to impress or please someone else will ultimately always end poorly. HOMEWORK.  Doing the research means we’re empowered with knowledge. GRAIN OF SALT.  Every expert comes with their own biases…it’s up to us to use all the information available to us and make our own judgement calls. NO F@*KS!  People won’t always agree when we go against the stream and do what feels right for us.  A Rebel gives zero effs....
REBELLION: The Rebel.

REBELLION: The Rebel.

A whole new kind of hardcore. During the FINAL WEEK of the Rebellion, our Rebel truth is this: Starting now, we’re a brand new kind of hardcore..for life.  To continue on our journey to success, we need the guts, the grit, and the FIRE of a true Rebel - always.  To persevere, live fearlessly, embrace failure and BELIEVE in what sometimes seems impossible, this takes a true Rebel spirit, inside and out. The permanent Take-Back. Remember where is all started?  At the beginning of this 8 week journey, we decided to take our power back.  We decided to be driven by a PASSION for being strong and healthy, instead of being motivated by BS ideals. We’ve taken healthy living back, and go forward on our own terms.  Because we feel so strong and empowered, we don’t let guilt, fear, or food control us. Just because we’ve done the work doesn’t mean all the old tricks aren’t there.  We’re about to be inundated with New Year’s diets, detoxes, and bargain basement bootcamp deals all designed to make us feel like crap for enjoying the holidays…we have to keep taking it back. We don’t know about you, but we’re completely done with measuring our legs, weighing our lunch, and feeling guilty all the time, so let’s commit to letting old habits go permanently. Rebel tricks. We now have a huge arsenal of tools and superpowers…keep using them!  Book mark this page so you always have access to all the tools from your Rebellion Take-Back.  They’re yours for life. The BIG Force

The BIG Force

Don’t sweat the small stuff. If we’re in it for the long-haul, the BIG picture is what counts.  How can we let go of the small “failures” and bumps in the road and continue striving toward what we want? Build “BIG Force” Muscle. No one ever set out to make big things happen and had a journey of smooth sailing, right?  When we get better at expecting roadblocks, then we’re more likely to get where we need to go because we become resilient, kick-ass problem solvers. The ONE Force looked at ways to stay focused and connected to goals.  The BIG Force takes it one step farther, focusing on THE BIG PICTURE while not dwelling on all the twists, turns and sh!t piles it sometimes takes along the way. Rebel tricks. THE GOOD.  It’s human nature to focus on the negative. A zillion things could be going our way, yet we’ll focus on on what’s not right. Imagine you’re at the bands and you’ve done 40 minutes of Jump Squats and those last 20 seconds are a killer. By focusing on all we’ve already accomplished, we’re in a better state of mind to get where we want to go. If we say screw the Jump Squats, I’m gonna bail on the bands today in exchange for happy hour with my crew…well let’s focus on all the times we did make our workout.  Is one night off going to affect the BIG picture?  Want more? Go back to The GOOD Force. MEASURE IT. Sometimes we think we’ve failed, but based on whose criteria? A friend was on the road to football stardom, then he injured and couldn’t...
REBELLION: The Crew.

REBELLION: The Crew.

The ultimate Crew. If you’ve ever made big life-style shifts then you already know about this week’s Rebel truth: the people we let in have a major impact on our success.  This week we check in with how our Crew impacts our world and remember to use The BIG Force to stay focused on crushing. Yo mama. Sticking to super-clean eating is bound to piss people off, and this isn’t really that surprising.  Food is an expression of love, comfort, tradition, and culture, so it’s bound to get personal.  Saying no to your mom’s lasagna or your  Grandma’s Nanaimo Bars? Don’t expect a high-five…we’ve seen this sh!t get downright ugly.  Hopefully most of your crew are pumped for your goals, but things can get damaging when passive aggressive comments start rolling. Heard any of this from friends and family: What do you need to lose weight for? I think you’re becoming obsessed with yourself. You think you’re too good for my tuna casserole? You work out too much, you’re getting too muscular. Here - I made you a lettuce leaf. Can you eat that? Haters be like… Whenever we choose better for ourselves, people may not like it. This is not on us.  REPEAT! This is not our problem.  When our goals are authentic and we’re striving for what we really want for ourselves, it’s up to us to not be influenced by judgment and negativity.  We can’t change how others will react or treat us, we can only choose our response. Ask anyone who’s tried to make anything happen.  When you dream big people will say you’ll fail, that you don’t have...
The GOOD Force

The GOOD Force

The best coach. Imagine if someone else spoke to us - or treated us - the we do to ourselves?  Simple statements like “my bad knee”, “my weak back”; or “I’m not very strong”, “I don’t do cardio”…how does this affect our brain?  We need more from ourselves - we have to be our own best motivator. First, story time 😉 Erin here. I thought I had a pretty “bad” shoulder.  I’ve had a slew of breaks and tears along the way, but my left shoulder was my nemesis. Pre-Revkor, my yoga journey taught me how to modify movements to nurture and protect those “injuries”.  I would attend classes and move with great care, learning as much as I could about precise alignment and not pushing past perceived limits.  I was either encouraged to embrace my limitations through acceptance, or spend hours working on them with various blocks, straps, pillows and workshops. 10 years went by and I found myself feeling stuck, apathetic and incapable in my body. Where was my fire and fight?  When athletes are using prosthetics to finish record-breaking sprints; when veterans are rebuilding after huge trauma, I could hardly cry in my organic hemp flakes about my tricky shoulder.   Everyone has an injury, illness or mechanical issue within the body that limits them.  Everyone. I decided to get over myself and my shoulder, and everything changed. I stopped thinking of my shoulder as bad, and started thinking of it as badass.  My shoulder hadn’t failed me, my shoulder had adventures, and the rest of me is stronger now to help support that edgy, full-living mofo. Teamwork!  To get back to work and...
