Long Weekend Rebel Survival Guide!

Long Weekend Rebel Survival Guide!

Canadian’s love long weekends. After all, our summer is like 5 seconds long.  Living healthy doesn’t mean we won’t revel in good times.  What does set us apart is that we’ll be among the few people who don’t feel like total sh!t Monday night - who’s with us? THE HURDLES Knowing what our challenges will be before the weekend rolls up means we’re better prepared to crush. We asked Revvers for their top reasons for falling off the goal train: Peer Pressure: Kids aren’t the only ones who crumble…this was actually the top answer by a landslide.  “I feel lame having a soda water or a single cocktail when everyone else is indulging around the campfire. I don’t want to feel like the odd man out.”  Feel familiar? Temptation: If you’re cottage-bound, odds are friends and family will be firing up the barbecue and with cocktails flowing dock-side.  Hard to resist?  “My brother in law makes the world’s best ribs every May 24, I can’t imagine saying no.” Manners:  No one wants to feel like the annoying health fiend at the party, munching on carrot sticks and seed mix.  “It feels rude bringing my own meals when I’m a guest at someone’s cottage for the weekend.” THE STRATEGY   Get Real: We’re not here to tell you that you can let it rip all weekend long then press the Reset button Tuesday morning.  While it’s true that we can always choose a fresh start when we need one, part of being hardcore is making tough choices and going the extra mile.  We already know that success comes with hard work and dedication, there’s no getting...
Rise + CRUSH

Rise + CRUSH

THIS is how Rebels face a new day. In my mid 30s, I committed to Julia Cameron’s simple concept of Morning Pages: hand-writing 3 pages of random thoughts each morning.  It doesn’t matter what goes on those pages, what’s important for me is just getting some of the noise out of my mind so I can tackle the day with some focus.  Like most creatives, my brain feels like an explosion around the clock.  This is one of the things that makes my business partnership with Ange so hilarious - unlike most people with the good sense to team up with their opposite, we share this affliction that feels a lot like living with Pop Rocks inside your skull. For me, journalling is non-negotiable when it comes to keeping my sanity. And for the record, I wouldn’t trade our dual Pop Rock brains for anything. Morning Pages are tough, because mornings are bananas. For most people, the start of the day is filled with other people’s needs and a race with the clock, so finding time to sit for 15 minutes of journalling can seem self-indulgent and full-on impossible.  Lately, I’ve been using Tim Ferris’ book Tools of Titans to help me sit long enough to focus on my journalling.  I read a couple pages for inspo, then grab my pen. Tools of Titans is filled with success tips from zillions of brilliant super-champs Ferris has interviewed, along with his own reflections and gems. This morning my random flip opened the book to Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock’s feature, where he mentions a t-shirt given to him at an Avatar event....
Success Sabotage

Success Sabotage

If we’re taking it back…. Then let’s totally take it back.  We saw this on Facebook and it stopped us in our tracks. It wasn’t the gorgeous graphic design - I guess this post doesn’t need to be pretty when it’s SO. DAMN. TRUE. The Revkor Rebellion was inspired through years of working in the fitness and seeing people give their power away to BS and excuses each and every time a “quick fix” fails. We’ve all been there and the truth is, we can all get caught in this trap when the going gets tough.  Making sh*t happen is HARD and takes down and dirty, on our knees, nose to the grind WORK. This list may seem harsh but it’s REAL, and Rebels can handle the truth. Could taking a hard look at this list could be a huge game-changer?  What if we’re surrounded by people who define this list…how does that affect our own success? Let’s break it down. The Blame Game. One of the most badass, renegade things we can do is own up to our own sh!t.  We all know people who blame their problems on everyone from their boss to the guy making their morning latte.  Isn’t it draining? But what if we’re doing the same thing in more subtle ways?  We all do it. Whose fault is it when we miss a workout? Traffic. Weather. Our kids.  Huge meal splurge…who’s to blame? The restaurant’s menu. The intoxicating smell of onion rings. The cheese industry for existing. We’re so used to what we call the “BUY AND FAIL” model.  When it comes to fitness, they love selling us the “thing”...

Lynds-spiration…3 years of crushing!

Lynds-spiration…3 years of crushing!

“Revkor immediately changed my perspective on exercise and my health.  I finally found a workout I enjoy, PLUS I see and feel the benefits every day.  I had no idea I could feel as great as I do.  Pain no longer gets in the way of my life.  I feel stronger and in better shape than I have in my entire life.” Meet Lyndsay, original Revver and one of two top winners from the 2015 Revkor Holiday Shred.   My Revkor journey began 3 years ago when my mom and I walked into a little studio in London.  Little did I know, my life would be changed forever. When I was 17, I hurt my back working in a grocery store.  At 19, I was finally diagnosed with degenerative disks in my upper back and neck.  They told me that my 19 year old disks were in the condition of a healthy 60 year old’s, and I was informed that disability would worsen with age.  The doctors said there was nothing they could do, but that I could control how quickly the injury worsened. It was recommended that I give up my dream to teach (which I did not) and stay away from any high impact activities.  I was even told that I would probably have to get a breast reduction later in life.  As such a young woman, I was horrified.  Eventually, I just accepted that I would have chronic pain for the rest of my life and there was nothing I could do about it.  The pain just became a way of life and I found ways...
