The GRIT Force

The GRIT Force

Getting down and gritty. What is Grit? Since researcher Angela Duckworth has made it her life’s work to study Grit, we’ll let her tell you.  Her website says: “Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term goals. One way to think about Grit is to consider what Grit isn’t.  Grit isn’t talent. Grit isn’t luck. Grit isn’t how intensely, for the moment, you want something.  Instead, Grit is about having what some researchers call an “ultimate concern”–a goal you care about so much that it organizes and gives meaning to almost everything you do. And Grit is holding steadfast to that goal. Even when you fall down. Even when you screw up. Even when progress toward that goal is halting or slow.  Talent and luck matter to success. But talent and luck are no guarantee of Grit. And in the very long run, I think Grit may matter as least as much, if not more.” Duckworth’s research has shown that Grit likely has more to do with success than luck, talent, or opportunity.  The good news is - YES!  Let’s get Gritty!  The bad news is - no more excuses 😉 Have we ever said to ourselves… I suck at pushups. I’m not good at sales. I’m not a creative person. I’ll never take that trip. I’m stuck in this role. Getting Gritty helps us change this kind of thinking and choose something very different for ourselves. Build “GRIT Force” Muscle. Lacking Grit?  The good news is Duckworth believes everyone can get Grittier.   Here are our 4 favourite Grit-Builders: A single focus. What do we want? Let’s go get it.  People with their eye...
