Rise + CRUSH

Rise + CRUSH

THIS is how Rebels face a new day. In my mid 30s, I committed to Julia Cameron’s simple concept of Morning Pages: hand-writing 3 pages of random thoughts each morning.  It doesn’t matter what goes on those pages, what’s important for me is just getting some of the noise out of my mind so I can tackle the day with some focus.  As life became busier, this didn’t feel possible every day. While I still love this habit and can crush it a couple times weekly, what’s absolutely non-negotiable for me every morning is the Five Minute Journal. For me, some form of journalling and connecting with myself every morning is non-negotiable when it comes to keeping my sanity.  Morning Pages are tough, because mornings are bananas. For most people, the start of the day is filled with other people’s needs and a race with the clock, so finding time to sit for 15 minutes of journalling can seem self-indulgent and full-on impossible.  Lately, I’ve been using Tim Ferris’ book Tools of Titans to help me sit long enough to focus on my journalling.  I read a couple pages for inspo, then grab my pen. Tools of Titans is filled with success tips from zillions of brilliant super-champs Ferris has interviewed, along with his own reflections and gems. This morning my random flip opened the book to Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock’s feature, where he mentions a t-shirt given to him at an Avatar event.  The James Cameron quote on the shirt stopped me in my tracks: Hope is not a strategy. Luck is not a factor. Fear is not...

“Get strong; crush your goals.”

Holiday Shred 2016 Revver Natalie… On how she balances it all AND shreds the bands, the waves, and CRUSHES life in general. Why did the bands feel different for you?  Why did the workout stick? Immediately following my first few Rev workouts, I could feel my muscles reacting.  I was the typical beginner, concentrating on clipping my bands on properly and using the right resistance for each sequence.  What I quickly realized was how much stronger I felt – and that feeling increased with each class.  RevMix classes became my favourite and I would start to challenge myself to improve my strength – adding more reps to my donkey push-ups, getting lower on my squats, pushing through those mountain climbers at an increasingly faster pace.  I could see results after only a few weeks and outside of the studio, I would find myself running up stairs and carrying even more heavy grocery bags without struggling.  I just felt strong!   Was there ever a time when fitness was not part of your life?  What changed? I played sports all of my life but have never been a fan of the gym.  After I had my two boys, I struggled with finding time for exercise.  I felt guilty leaving them and in my spare time I would clean the house and cook meals, trying to be the ‘perfect’ mom.  I was tired and trying to live up to unrealistic goals.  I was travelling regularly for work, away from home 3-4 days a week.  My husband, who has always made time for staying fit, helped me realize that in order to...
Post Shred Blues? We’ve got your fix.

Post Shred Blues? We’ve got your fix.

Alright revNATION, we hear you loud and clear!  Some of you have a bad case of the PSBs, and who can blame you?  We’d be lying if we said that we aren’t also pining for the days of sticker boards and crazy Shred-season energy. Revkor Shred runs 8 weeks long for a reason: so that healthy habits become a lifestyle.  Hanging on to that lifestyle though isn’t easy, but guess what?  You’re tough stuff, and you can do it. If you think you’re the only one who’s fallen off the Shred-rails, guess again.  Does this sound familiar? Wowieee!  I really crushed that Shred!  I’m feeling better than I’ve felt in YEARS.  I’m going to celebrate with poutine and a pitcher of beer.  Maybe I’ll see a movie this Saturday instead of Revving.  You know, it’s not that big of a deal to order the extra large popcorn at the movies.  I mean, corn is a WHOLE GRAIN.  Wow.  I’m feeling bloated, I think I’m going to skip revMIX this morning and watch Making a Murderer on Netflix in my track pants.   Just one episode.  Ok three - because really, this is important world news, it would be IRRESPONSIBLE not to know how this story plays out.  Know what goes really well with Netflix?  Pizza.  Oh geez.  Look what I’ve done with my results.  I let myself down - just when I was totally getting somewhere.  I’m such a colossal weenie. I can’t get anything right.  Booohoooooooooo. C’mon Revvers, it’s time to remember what we’re made of!  We’ve watched you sweat your way through hours of game-changing moves at the bands, there’s no...
The Reason We ACTUALLY Shred: It’s not what you think.

The Reason We ACTUALLY Shred: It’s not what you think.

It’s Shred Season again!!  Everyone wants the same thing - to FEEL INCREDIBLE.  We get loads of questions about how it works: What is this Shred? Can you send me the diet plan? How much weight will I lose? Where can I buy my Shred food? How many calories can I eat? Will you send me a food scale? How long will to take me to fit into my fave skinny jeans? It’s not about that. We encourage people to snap “before” pics so they have a visual record of their progress, so sometimes people think we run the Revkor Shred twice to focus on how we look.  You know, ripped abs and spray tans…because sometimes that is how we roll.  We get why people might think that. But it’s not about that, either. Most people start shredding with us for the same reasons they started Revving: they want to look and feel better. But they stay for so much more.  If you’ve Shredded with us before, then you know by now what it’s really all about. We ACTUALLY have your success down to a science. For real.  See, studies prove that when the people we surround ourselves with people who are unhealthy, overweight, and sedentary, we are more likely to be the same.  When the people we work and live with are negative, critical, and “stuck”, you guessed it - the heaviness weighs us down and can stop us in our tracks. The fix? A crew of goal-crushers. When we’re surrounded by people who strive for progress, who know they have more inside of them, who want to be strong, healthy and unstoppable, science tells us that...
